Goals that are part of the Legislative Mandate -
- To recommend the formation of a State Medicaid organization that is customer service oriented and focuses on health care services.
- To recommend a State Medicaid organization that is capable of being responsive and accountable to the Governor's and Legislators' directives, goals and budgets.
- To define and plan for an information system to support the goals and functions of the new department.
- To develop principles and criteria for establishing a State Medicaid management staff that has the capacity for strategic planning and capability of developing well thought out recommendations to solve problems and take advantage of opportunities.
- To develop structures and principles to improve quality and reduce costs by removing waste, overlap, duplicative and nonproductive services.
- To align and focus the purchasing power of the State to control and reduce Medicaid spending.
Additional Goals Established by the Council -
- To recommend a State Medicaid organization that does not harm non-Medicaid health care services.
- To recommend a State Medicaid organization that sets the stage for improvement in health care.
